Shuping age 92, passed away Jan. 1, 2014 at the Antelope Valley Hospital. Shuping was born in Forgan, Okla., but lived most of his youth in Texas, graduating from Tipton High School in 1940 before moving to California. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and also during the Korean Conflict. He retired from EAFB in 1976 after ;more than 30 years of service. He started a new career, in charge of the golf carts at the Horse Thief Golf and Country Club of Stallion Springs outside of Tehachapi, that lasted an additional 20 years; however whenever one of his friends came by, he had no trouble closing up shop and accompanying them for a round of golf. He moved back to Lancaster in 2001 where he resided until his death.
Shuping had four children from his first marriage to Doris Kimbro; H.L. Shuping Jr. (Charlene); Nancy (Bill) Clark; Rodney Shuping (Gail) and John Shuping (Stephanie). Shuping is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Payne Shuping and her three children, Stephen Wilkison (Carole); Susan Wilkison Bond (Paul) and Denise Shuping Hall. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, RV Shuping of Merced. He is preceded by his sister Helen Pilcher. A celebration of Shupe's Life was held on his 92nd birthday, Oct. 13, 2013 at Christ Our Savior United Methodist Church in Quartz Hill followed by a reception attended by many members of his family, friends from workplace and friends from his duplicate Bridge Club. Shupe played duplicate bridge twice a week until his final two and one-half months.
